Bruce Arena’s Los Angeles Galaxy are taking on the Azkals, the Philippines National Team, on Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. And come match day, all eyes will be focused on David Beckham and his ball-handling ability.
“It’s something special to be here,” Beckham said at a jampacked press conference at the Makati Shangri-La hotel on Thursday, according to Cedelf P. Tupas of the Philippine Daily Inquirer. “Football changes lives and we are proud to be part of this tour.”
This marks the first time since the 1970’s that a high-profile opponent is visiting the Philippines.
“(Beckham’s) visit validates our interest in the sport and gives us a chance to share our love of the game with others.,” said Philippines national team manager Dan Palami. “This international recognition of football’s resurgence in our country connects us further with the wider global community of football fans and enthusiasts.”
