Washington State Football Program Hires Mike Leach

Bohdi SandersContributor IIIOctober 12, 2016

Mike Leach, the former head coach at Texas Tech University, has accepted the head coaching position at Washington State University.

Leach will replace Paul Wulff, who was fired Tuesday. It was highly rumored that Leach was the top candidate for the head coaching job at the University of Mississippi (Ole Miss), but the Ole Miss coaching committee has moved very slowly in hiring a head coach.

In his 10 seasons at Texas Tech, Leach had a career record of 84-43. He had one of the most explosive offenses in the country. His quarterbacks were known to lead the nation in passing. His teams averaged over 30 points per game.

Leach also led his teams to finish in the top 25 in five of his last six seasons.

This was a great hire for the Washington State program that has struggled over the past years. Look for Washington State to greatly improve under Leach's system.
