Stanford is one of several overrated teams who do not deserve their current place in the BCS standings and are preventing teams such as Houston from being where they should be in the latest rankings.
The BCS is not a perfect system, but it is a travesty that teams who play weak schedules and have few quality wins can be ranked ahead of undefeated teams from non-BCS conferences.
For years, Boise State has been screwed in the BCS because they don't play a tough schedule, but everyone knows the recent Broncos teams were fully capable of committing with and beating the nation's top schools.
Let's look at three teams who do not deserve to be where they are in the current BCS rankings.
1. Virginia Tech
The ACC is terrible this season, and no team has established itself as an elite team. Virginia Tech is currently the best team in the conference with an 11-1 record, but they have no quality wins.
They played an incredibly soft schedule that was highlighted by Marshall from the MAC, and their one loss was to an overrated Clemson team that was dominated by N.C. State last week.
The Hokies have taken advantage of the fact the ACC is quite bad this season, and thus, have a record that looks better that how good they really are.
Va-Tech will probably beat Clemson in the ACC championship game on Saturday, but they will be destroyed against any opponent they play in a BCS bowl in January.
Oregon is currently ninth in the BCS standings despite having two losses and proving this season that they are certainly not as good as they were last year, when they barely lost to Auburn in the BCS title game.
The Pac-12 has not had a standout team this season, and the Ducks best win was against an overrated Stanford team.
After a loss to LSU to open the season in which many people gave Oregon a pass, they proved they were not championship material with a loss to USC on November 19.
Oregon should not be in the top 10 of the BCS standings when teams such as Oklahoma and Georgia are more deserving.
Stanford has been an unpredictable team this season. They lost badly to Pac-12 rival Oregon, 53-30, on November 12, but have beaten USC and Notre Dame.
They did need three overtimes to beat the Trojans in a game where USC shot themselves in the foot with stupid mistakes.
The Cardinal do not have any impressive wins in a Pac-12 conference that has not been that great this season. Against the best two teams they played, they lost (Oregon) and barely won (USC in 3OT).
Andrew Luck is a fabulous player and worthy Heisman Trophy candidate, but Stanford is not an elite football team and do not deserve their No. 4 ranking in the BCS.
