High School Punt Return Video: Watch High Schooler Mimic Neo with Matrix Juke
You may have watch hundreds, maybe even thousands of punt returns in your life, but I bet you’ve never seen one like this.
Petey Williams of Wake Forest-Rolesville in North Carolina was returning a punt against Leesville Road, and it appears as if he’s going to get stuffed almost instantly after catching the ball. He makes one guy miss than starts cutting toward the left side of the field. As he switches his attention to the players sprinting full speed at him, the same guy that already whiffed once thought he could get a huge hit on Williams from behind.
Things didn’t go according to plan.
The defender takes a swipe at him, almost like he is trying to throw a punch, and once again he gets nothing but air. That’s because Williams is somehow able completely bend over like he is doing the limbo while being able to stay on his feet. It’s incredible, and one of the most athletic moves I’ve seen on a football field in a long time, regardless of the level of play. It really likes like a Neo move from the Matrix trilogy.
He ends up reversing the field and picks up an extra 15 or so yards before running into another herd of defenders. The incredible flexibility and gracefulness likely couldn’t have been pulled off if it weren’t for his 5'8", 145-pound frame.
Now that Williams has set the bar at the amateur level, the NFL needs a guy like Darren Sproles to pull this move of at the professional level. Sproles weighs more, but is roughly the same height and has similar flexibility.
Let’s hope this isn’t the last time we ever see this move on a football field. Thanks, Petey, for giving us one of the coolest moves of the 2011 football season.
