The Granddaddy of them all, the Rose Bowl, should be the best BCS bowl (besides the National Championship Game), and should therefore have the best teams. Having UCLA and Michigan State play would just be an embarrassment.

These two teams are playing in the Pac-12 and Big Ten Championship Games respectively, and if they win they will play in the Rose Bowl. I shudder at the mere thought of that.

UCLA has gone 5-4 in conference play but will represent the South in the Pac-12 Championship Game because USC is not eligible for postseason play. This team is not ranked and has not been ranked all season.

UCLA has only won back-to-back games once this year, and after their embarrassing 50-0 loss against USC, they continue to prove that they don't belong in a BCS Bowl at 6-6.

The fact remains, however, that they are one win away from being in the Rose Bowl, and UCLA has not lost two games in a row this year. If they keep that pattern against Oregon (a tough task, but still possible) they will play on national television.

Michigan State, on the other hand, are 10-2 and 7-1 in the Big Ten. They play against Wisconsin in the Big Ten Championship Game, and if they win they're in the Rose Bowl.

Despite being better than UCLA, this team does not belong in Pasadena either.

Michigan State has already beaten Wisconsin, but they have lost to teams as bad as Notre Dame, who does not even deserve to be mentioned during top-25 conversations.

Michigan State has only played two ranked teams, going 1-1 against them, and going 9-1 against teams unranked. They have not proved that they deserve their No. 14 ranking.

Michigan State should be in the bottom part of the top 25 if they belong there at all, and they should not represent the Big Ten in the Rose Bowl.

If these two teams meet in Pasadena, it will be one of the worst Rose Bowls we have ever seen. These two teams aren't even worth watching most of the time, and if they play ratings will surely suffer.

A UCLA vs. Michigan State Rose Bowl would simply be an embarrassment to the game, and it cannot happen.
