Frusterating Loss For The Lakers

Lyndon Crackel by Contributor Written on December 19, 2008

I have to admit that as a Laker fan I was highly disappointed, but not surprised. Clearly the Celtics are the best team in the NBA right now and that is not going to change soon.  The Lakers are not the best team in the NBA and aren't trying to. Going on the road and adjusting to road games is difficult for any team and the Lakers did not make the adjustments that they should have made. What has disappointed me in the way that the Lakers are playing is the lack of hustle. I see players standing around and making no effort to go after loose balls with the exception of Trevor Ariza.

The Lakers, however are in transition in going from an offensive minded team to a defensive minded team and changing that strategy is going to take the entire season for the players to learn and develop.  The mentality is not an easy one. That is the reason many coaches prefer the run and shoot and forget about defense. The mentality of defense is the reason that teams like the Suns under coach Mike D'antoni has never gotten a championship.

That leads me to the final conclusion that the season is a work in progress and is not finished yet. While Miami Heat fans are rejoicing over this one win, the final summary of this year is not over and it is too early to panic or be worried. By the end of the season the Lakers can become the best team in the NBA.  They have a core of very young players that are learning and growing game by game
