Silver Creek High School beats Jeffersonville for first time since 94

Dragons had lost 28 of past 29 meetings

Seven games into his 12th season as boys basketball coach at Silver Creek High School, John Bradley has experienced something brand new: a victory over Jeffersonville.

Spencer Robinson scored 26 points and Nick Townsend added 13 as host Silver Creek (6-1) defeated Jeff 61-51 tonight for just its 11th win in 77 meetings between the two Clark County schools. Silver Creek’s last win over Jeff (3-1) came on Dec.16, 1994.

Jeff had won 15 in a row against Silver Creek and 28 of the past 29.

“This is huge,” Bradley said. “We finally did it. We did a nice job covering their shooters, we did a nice job on the boards and we didn’t turn the ball over much. When you do the little things—and that’s what we stress here—good things will come your way.”

The Dragons led throughout the first half but fell behind 38-31 late in the third quarter after a 10-2 Jeff run. But Michael Bradley (11 points) and Robinson drained three-pointers on consecutive possessions over the final 20 seconds of the quarter to cut the lead to 38-37.

Bradley settled his team down on the sidelines at the break between quarters.

“I told them, ‘Look at the school name on your jersey,’” he said. “I told them, ‘Don’t look at the name on the other team.’ In the past we’ve played a Jeff or a New Albany or another great team tough but began to think about who those teams were and forgot to play our game. I didn’t want us to do that again.”
