Whether or not Prince Fielder is at first base in 2012, the Brewers' top two officials made it clear Wednesday that they intend to defend their National League Central title with another contending team.

"We think we can compete even if we aren't able to get Prince back," principal owner Mark Attanasio said Wednesday at the Pfister Hotel, where the end of the General Managers Meetings overlapped with the start of the Owners Meetings. "We're looking, right now, at shortstop, first base and third base as positions we have to consider, and we have a lot of potential there."
