WWE Survivor Series 2011: Everything You Need to Know Before Tonight
Tonight is finally it.
After months of speculation and buildup, Survivor Series kicks off tonight from the historic Madison Square Garden.
Legendary and defining moments of careers are grown in situations like this, so prepare yourself for something you can look back upon and recall seeing it happen as it unfolds live on pay-per-view.
You're probably sick to your stomach with Survivor Series coverage at this point.
Countless articles have been written to preview this event that is finally taking place tonight.
Allow me to break it all down for you in a one-stop article.
This is everything you need to know for tonight's event.
Each match will be previewed, have my predictions attached to it and will even have another Bleacher Report article attached to it with a unique perspective.
You can keep reading elsewhere on the site, but if you need a crash course in what is going to happen tonight, this is the article to read.

The main event for tonight has no titles on the line and has little back story, but it will still be a sight to see. John Cena and The Rock, opponents at WrestleMania roughly five months later, tag together to face... uhm... who are those two guys again? Absolutely nobody is talking about Awesome Truth and it i becoming evidently clear that their two names are destined to be an answer to a WWE Trivial Pursuit game. This is Rocky's first match since WrestleMania XX, at an event in Survivor Series where some of his greatest wins have come. It is also Madison Square Garden, where legends, including his, are made.
Awesome Truth is completely lost in the shuffle here. That is exactly why I am siding with the underdog and going for a huge upset. Send the New York City crowd home angry and confused as one man turns on another or their mutual hatred for one another helps Awesome Truth pull off the victory to propel their careers. The Rock and Cena don't need a victory. What they need is a reason to hate each other. This match can give them just that.
Alberto Del Rio and CM Punk face each other in a WWE Championship match at Survivor Series, but it is far from the main event. Del Rio's second WWE Championship reign is much like his first: uneventful. As for CM Punk, he is a one-time WWE Champion that left, returned, became an undisputed champion, got screwed over, and hasn't gotten a fair chance to get it back yet.
The world wants CM Punk to win the WWE Championship tonight and he probably will. Punk can keep his title and have the reign he was meant to have the first time around. Punk also looks like the guy who deserves to go into WrestleMania as WWE Champion, which he honestly could be after winning at Survivor Series.
The World Heavyweight Championship hangs in the balance between the challenger, Big Show, and the champion, Mark Henry. Last month at Vengeance, these two had a great match and tried doing anything they could to each other. Eventually, they went to the top rope for a superplex and the ring exploded.
With that no-contest, this rematch was created. There are no stipulations attached to this match, shocking considering that the same thing could theoretically happen at Survivor Series. I think this match gets a little sloppy at the end, if only to get the feud through TLC in December. I think that Mark Henry retains, but the way it will happen will likely be messy.
In this, the 25th Survivor Series, the tradition of the event, the elimination tag team match, stays alive tonight. Team Orton faces Team Barrett in a five-on-five Traditional Survivor Series match. Randy Orton captains one team with Kofi Kingston, Sin Cara, Sheamus and Mason Ryan. Their opponents, captained by Wade Barrett, will be Jack Swagger, Dolph Ziggler, Cody Rhodes and Hunico.
There are tons of ways for this match to go and multiple ways for the results to go. There is a lot of young talent in this match that can do their careers a favor by surviving in this match. Randy Orton has had a good track record with Survivor Series, but it will be important for him to actually lose in this match. Orton does not need this victory for any reason and is the most important man to lose among these ten.
With not a lot of matches that will get a lot of time in this event, I think the Traditional Survivor Series match will have only one sole survivor, a throwback to Rocky Maivia doing the same thing 15 years ago in the same building. For Team Barrett, that one man can be Barrett himself, who is revamping his career. As for Team Orton, it could be Mason Ryan, who does get a lot of criticism, but can show his true skill on the big stage of Survivor Series.
At Vengeance, the Kelly Kelly/Beth Phoenix feud seemed to end randomly in favor of a title match for Eve Torres. Eve used her jujitsu background and actually put a great match together. The rivalry has continued to adapt. WWE.com has even showed Eve steal Beth's rental car. This now leads to a Lumberjill match at Survivor Series.
With the rest of the Divas surrounding the ring, can these two put together another good match? I like to think that they could. Natalya will certainly be on the side of Beth Phoenix. The first chance she gets to lay her hands on Eve, the rest of the lumberjills will create a huge cat fight outside of the ring, leading to a messy finish. Beth will likely hold onto the title at Survivor Series, but her momentum seems to be dropping. A good match before the crazy ending is the only saving grace for Beth's long title reign.
It has been a difficult time to be a John Morrison fan. Then again, it usually is. Every time that this young, athletic and exciting superstar gets close to a good position in the company, he seems to do something to no longer have it. Morrison has seemed to blow more chances than my grandmother has blown birthday candles.
Many speculate that Morrison's days in WWE are just about over. That's exactly why I think Morrison wins the United States Championship tonight at Survivor Series. Dolph Ziggler has held the championship for a long time and is need of a change in scenery. Ziggler can drop the title and elevate to a main event that won't have John Cena, who will be occupied with The Rock, or a storyline-injured Triple H. This is as good of a time as any for Dolph Ziggler to make the jump.
Many fans imagined Zack Ryder to be in this match tonight, especially being from Long Island and all. However, I agree with this move. It puts more popularity on the Internet darling. Think about it. John Morrison, the man who was deprived of championship gold for so long, is getting a title shot at a major pay-per-view and everyone is talking about Zack Ryder's Twitter petition instead? Are you serious, bro?
Look for a shocking victory by Morrison in this match that may lead to a Ryder/Morrison rivalry and even a Morrison heel turn. This is the match that nobody is talking about, but it has two of the better workers in the company right now. I could see this as the opening match, just to give Ziggler a breather before his match later on.
