UFC 139 Results: What We Learned from Urijah Faber vs. Brian Bowles

Sal DeRoseCorrespondent INovember 19, 2011

Looks like Urijah Faber will get the shot at Dominick Cruz after he beat Brian Bowles at UFC 139 in San Jose on Saturday.

The epic trilogy will to fruition after Faber knocked Bowles around in the second round and finished him with a nice guillotine choke.

Faber looked really good tonight and his striking looked even more improved as he was able to rock Bowles with a nice uppercut and land a nice powerful short elbow to the head of Bowles.

What We'll Remember About This Fight

The power of that short elbow and the uppercut that rocked Bowles. He may be little, but Faber packs a lot of power sometimes.

What We Learned About Urijah Faber

His striking is improving, which is good for his fight with Cruz. If he can strike like he did tonight and land a hand on Cruz, he could win the UFC's bantamweight belt next year.

What We Learned About Brian Bowles

Bowles is still improving, and at his age that is a good thing. He had a good first round, but his second round was just a pure domination by Urijah Faber. Bowles is still a very good fighter; he was just beaten by a top-three bantamweight tonight.

What's Next for Urijah Faber?

This is obviously a fight with Cruz if Cruz can heal soon and start training again.

What's Next for Brian Bowles?

Bowles vs. Renan Barao anyone? Could be a pretty good fight to get either one in contention. Two very powerful bantamweights right there in a slugfest.
