The Illini Fighting Illini and head coach Ron Zook may have began the year 6-0 however, since Illinois has dropped four straight games and are on the verge of a complete catastrophic breakdown, despite being bowl eligible.
On the contrary, invading this week are the No. 17 ranked Wisconsin Badgers who are 8-2 and looking for a Big Ten title game berth. The Badgers have Heisman Trophy candidate in QB Russell Wilson along with a great two-back system in Montee Ball and James White in the ground game.
Also, Sconnie has a defense that allows just 15.8 points per game compared to an Illinois offense that scored just 25. So, it’s a fair assessment that the Illini will be fortunate to score 14 points let alone stay within 14 points and cover the spread.
The only player Wisconsin needs to worry about is dual-threat QB Nathan Scheelhaase of Illinois, as he is coach Zook’s offense. Scheelhaase has accounted for almost 2,400 total yards and has scored 18 TDs, but he’s thrown six picks and has been sacked 27 times.
Therefore, expect a lot of blitzing from the Badgers defense since Illinois lacks in pass protection. Also, the sooner Wisky gets a solid lead then the sooner Illinois will be forced into more passing situations, thus becoming one-dimensional.
