The days of greats such as Joe Montana have come and gone, but who are the current top 5 quarterbacks in the NFL? Is Eli Manning on the list? What about his brother Peyton? Is the future Hall of Famer Brett Favre on that list? I set out to answer this question and named the current top 5 quarterbacks in the NFL (in my opinion).
Tom Brady is one of the best if the not the best quarterback in NFL history? He has won three Super Bowls and nearly won another one before going down with a knee injury against the Kansas City Chiefs in Week One of the 2008-09 season. With the addition of Randy Moss, Brady will look to bring the Patriots back into Super Bowl contention in the 2009-10 season.
Peyton Manning, is of course, the number two choice. He and Brady are most likely both future Hall of Famers and they have plenty of time left in the NFL, barring injuries of course. But Manning hasn't missed a game since he started his first game. Manning led the Colts to the Super Bowl two seasons ago and was named the MVP of the game.
Brett Favre is only on this list because of his career's sake. After retiring after a loss to the eventual world champion Giants in the playoffs, Favre decided to play again in the NFL. But the Packers wouldn't start him so he was traded to the New York Jets. The jury is still out on his performance this year.
Drew Brees has made the Pro Bowl for second time while playing in a Black and Gold uniform, he is also on the road to breaking Dan Marino's record for most yards in a season. 'Nuff said.
Most people would probably place Eli Manning here, but I'm going to go out on a limb and put the guy that he was traded for on the list. That's right, Phillip Rivers. Manning which helps him with his wins, Rivers' isn't so hot but that didn't stop him from racking up a lot of numbers this year. Besides, Manning has started longer than Rivers and it took him this long to reach a Super Bowl, how long will it take Rivers now that Drew Brees is safely out of Charger land?
Rivers beat out Eli Manning for No. 5 but that doesn't mean that Eli isn't on the list. Even though he has a great defense helping him out, Manning is still doing what he has to do to win. I'll pick them to win it all again this year, unless his brother, Peyton and the Colts get in their way.
