What's At Stake?
Early season dominance.
Both Florida and Ohio State have just a single game and win under their belt thus far this season. They both beat up on cupcakes and now will try to assert dominance early in the year to set the tone for the rest of the campaign.
These two teams are both tournament bound, but picking up a win here will definitely help their seeding when March Madness finally comes around.
What They're Saying
Bob Baptist at The Columbus Dispatch notes that Buckeyes coach Thad Matta is going to use this game to gauge how his rotation will look during the rest of the season and his star player Jared Sullinger feels it will help the team.
Matta will be holding the feet of untested freshmen and sophomores to the fire in the second game of the season as he builds a rotation for the long run.
“This is really going to be a good test of where this basketball team stands,” Sullinger said. “It’s really going to help us develop who can be out there and who cannot be out there.”
Florida Gators center Patric Young told Kevin Brockway of GatorSports.com that he feels the Gators will pull off the upset if they can contain Jared Sullinger.
“They don't have the same leadership in (David) Lighty and (Jon) Dielber that they had last year,” Young said. “We feel like we have an opportunity to disrupt those guys because we feel like the chemistry is not as good as it was last year because of the leadership they had last year.”
Florida Player To Watch: Mike Rosario
Rosario played two years for the Rutgers Scarlet Knights before deciding to leave his home state and play for Billy Donovan and the Florida Gators.
He dropped 19 points in 20 minutes of play in his first game and went five for eight from long distance.
This kid is going to be a stud for his new team.
Ohio State Player To Watch: Jared Sullinger
The second-year man for the Buckeyes is an absolute monster and will be a top-five pick in the NBA next year without a doubt.
He is the leader of the team and an absolute superstar.
These two teams are wildly different. Ohio State is going to play fundamentally and look to bang it down low for easy buckets.
Florida is going to bomb away from long-range.
How will these teams handle playing against a style that is widely different than their own?
We will find out tonight.
Ohio State 72 – Florida 66
Florida will hang with Ohio State but the Buckeyes interior presence will eventually open the game up for them.
Unless Florida shoots absolutely lights out from three, they will lose this game late in the second half.
