The Georgia Tech basketball season got under way this evening, but leading returning scorer Glen Rice Jr. was not among the participants. Just hours before the tip-off in the season opener against Florida A&M, Rice was suspended by new head coach Brian Gregory for the season's first three games for undisclosed reasons.

In addition to missing the opener, Rice will sit out the Delaware State and Saint Joseph's games, with the Saint Joseph's game being a part of the Charleston Classic. Rice is scheduled to return on November 18th in the second round of the Charleston Classic against either Seton Hall or Virginia Commonwealth.

This is a definite blow for the Yellow Jackets, because not only was Rice the top returning scorer, but he was one of the most experienced players on a young team. For that reason, Coach Gregory was hoping to count on Rice as a leader this season.
