New Offensive Coordinator Named For The Washington Huskies
Coach Steve Sarkisian has named Jim Michalczik to be the new offensive coordinator for the Washington Huskies. He will be replacing Tim Lappano, Tyrone Willingham's coordinator for four years. Michalzik was offensive line coach for the California Golden Bears and he will also coach the offensive line along with his duties as offensive coordinator.
A graduate from Washington State Univeristy, he originally hails from Port Angeles Washington. He will be coach for Washington and as well will continue as the Bears offensive line coach for the Emerald Bowl on December 27.
Michalczik has been an assistant at the University of Oregon with Jeff Tedford starting in 1999 and moved with Tedford to Cal. He served one year as offensive coordinator for Cal in 2007 as well.
He's coached seven All-Pac 10 lineman in his career at Cal, including center Alex Mack the last three seasons. On top of a handful of NFL draft picks, Michalczik has a proven track record with the Cal Bears.
It's a great hire to get the Huskies sputtering offense going. While Coach Sark has stated he will retain the playcalling, it will be a great help to have Michalczik coaching the offensive line and helping to get their running game back on track.
In other news, Rocky Seto has been offered the position of defensive coordinator for the Huskies, but there is still no word on whether he will be accepting the position.
I'll report more coaching additions as they come about.
