UNIVERSITY PARK, PA - NOVEMBER 08: Penn State University head football coach Joe Paterno leaves the team's football building on November 8, 2011 in University Park, Pennsylvania. Amid allegations that former assistant Jerry Sandusky was involved with child sex abuse, Paterno's weekly news conference was canceled about an hour before it was scheduled to occur. At this point, it's hard to imagine anyone hasn't heard at least some of what's been going on at Penn State.

That's a tumultuous situation that could change at any second, but this is a football preview. I know what's going on at Penn State, but it's best to view this preview from a pure football perspective.

When the Nebraska Cornhuskers travel to Happy Valley to take on the Penn State Nittany Lions on Saturday, there will be a significant impact on the Big Ten standings.

Where: Beaver Stadium; University Park, Penn.

When: Saturday, Nov. 12 at noon EST

Watch: ESPN; streamed on ESPN3

Listen: For Nebraska; for Penn State.

Betting Line (According to Sportsbook): Nebraska (-4)

Given the lack of quality practice and preparation Penn State is surely dealing with, I like Nebraska to win and cover.

Key Storyline:

Football-wise, Penn State is a contender in the Big Ten. Can they stay that way?

Who Might Not Play for Nebraska:

S Courtney Osborne and DT Thaddeus Randle are questionable.

DT Jared Crick and OL Jake Cotton are out.

Who Might Not Play for Penn State:

RB Joe Suhey is questionable.

LB Michael Mauti and QB Paul Jones are out.

BCS Top/25 Implications:

No. 19 Nebraska risks dropping out of the Top 25 if they lose. No. 12 Penn State's spot in the rankings is probably safe, though.

The Nittany Lions actually have a reasonable chance at winning the Big Ten this year, although a win over Nebraska is going to be necessary.

What They're Saying:

The Associated Press quoted Big Ten coaches in saying that Penn State needs to keep their focus on the football game:

"(Mark) Dantonio said it also is important to stick to routine and not change the way any aspect of the program is run during the crisis. Kill said it's important for players to tune out what is said outside the program.

"'The media and everybody gets involved with that,' he said. 'Inside closed doors you just go to work.'"

Nebraska Player To Watch:

Taylor Martinez is a quarterback with tremendous all-around ability. How Penn State contains him will decide this game.

Penn State Player To Watch:

Silas Redd will need to dominate play for the Nittany Lions.

On the Hot Seat:

Bo Pelini's job is not at stake, but if his team doesn't finish more consistently this year, 2012 will be an interesting season for him.

Prediction: Nebraska 23, Penn State 17

Yes, the focus is on the field, but there is no way the Nittany Lions won't be significantly distracted by all that's happened.

Nebraska is a team with great potential and talent. I like them to win this one.
