Week 10 Fantasy Rankings: Tight Ends Rankings/Projections
Vernon Davis vs Giants:
Another disappointing season from Vernon Davis as the 49ers have been asking him to block more. Truthfully, last week could’ve been a nice game as Davis had a long reception downfield in his hands, but he failed to haul it in.
Drops have been an issue for Davis throughout his career, but I feel like he might have a nice game this week.
The Giants are coming to town and playing some good football after beating the Patriots in New England last week. If Manning can lead the Giants to an early lead, it will force the 49ers to think about breaking away from their run-heavy ways, especially with Frank Gore nursing a bad ankle.
That said, if you have another tight end that’s been playing well for you, it’s best to keep him in the lineup, because of the 49ers' tendency to run, and because no team has forced them from their style of play this year.
Antonio Gates vs Raiders:
Coming off his best performance of the season, it will be interesting to see if Antonio Gates can play close to the level he did against the Packers with only three days to get ready.
The Raiders have fallen hard in recent weeks to fellow division rivals the Chiefs and the Broncos at home. This week the Chargers are in a crucial situation as they have fallen back to a 4-4 record, but because the Chiefs lost to the Dolphins, they have a chance to regain first place this week.
Philip Rivers may not be the same quarterback we’ve come to expect from years past, but he clearly favors Gates when healthy and his eight receptions last week are evidence of that.
As long as Gates is on the field this week, consider him a must-start unless you have a player like Jimmy Graham on your team as well.
