UFC 141 will feature a superfight between former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar and Alistair Overeem, and the anticipation for what is to take place inside the cage on Dec. 31 is growing day-by-day.
UFC commentator Joe Rogan regards Overeem as one of the premier heavyweight fighters, and a recent interview prior to UFC 138 shows just what he thinks Overeem is capable of when he makes his Octagon debut against Lesnar.
"It's a very exciting fight," Rogan said. "Stylistically, very, very exciting because Overeem has never fought a guy like Brock before. He's never fought a wrestler of that caliber and a guy who is that big, and the big question is, 'can Overeem keep the fight from going to the ground,' and if he can, then Brock is in a lot of trouble because Alistair Overeem is without a doubt the best striker that has ever entered into martial arts."
Lesnar's last fight was a first-round TKO loss to Cain Velasquez, who is currently undefeated and the No. 1 heavyweight in the world. Overeem was last seen defeating Fabricio Werdum in Strikeforce. He is currently riding a 10-fight win streak with wins over Todd Duffee, Brett Rogers and Werdum.
"You got a guy who is a K-1 Grand Prix champion who is fighting in MMA, and who has a real ground game," Rogan continued. "His ground game is legit. Submitted Vitor Belfort with a guillotine. Won the Abu Dhabi European trials. He's legit on the ground, and unquestionably, he's the best standup fighter in the heavyweight division."
