The House Manny Can Build

Mike SullivanContributor IDecember 12, 2008

The winter meetings are now over. Omar Minaya went to Las Vegas looking to add a closer. The Mets GM leaves with two. So the Mets did well? Maybe but the Phillies added Raul Ibanez someone Omar has been targeting since last year. So what does Omar do now.

If he thinks about it, it makes sense. The Mets are opening a new ballpark this year. They are one of a select few teams that can still spend. Open the new stadium with a bang!

Manny Ramirez will draw fans to the new seats. He will make this lineup a dangerous lineup.

The New York Mets need to jolt this stadium and make it rock like Shea did in 1986 and in 2000. There is no other player on the market that can do this. Look what he did last year for the Dodgers. The Mets need to have immediate success in the new ballpark to offset some of the pricing. Manny will do that.

It will also in my opinion put you ahead of the Phillies. The Mets and Philly have been somewhat equal in the last few years. They have been trading spots like two Sprint Cup race cars. Manny will give you the upper hand in offense now. The Phillies ended up on top and now replaced Pat Burrell, with Ibanez. Omar needs to make the next move.

At three years and $80 million, you may be able to get him and he will help build what will now become the new home of the New York Mets!
