The Detroit Red Wings need to add a power forward at the trade deadline to avoid another early playoff exit.
Not just any power forward, but one that can keep up with the skill level that the Wings play with.
A forward that can skate and pass with a team that thrives on puck control and discipline.
The Wings have been mentioned in talks with many different teams: the Kings (for Rob Blake), Blue Jackets (Sergie Fedorov), and even whispers of Maple Leafs (Mats Sundin) or Rangers (Jaromir Jagr).

While you can’t argue with any of those players’ talents, it can also be said that forwards such as Fedorov and Jagr won’t bring much grit to the Red Wings.
It might serve Detroit best to make a move that maybe wouldn't be consider a blockbuster deal, like adding a player such as Mike Comrie or even defenseman Adam Foote.
Even with former Red Wing Darren McCarty being resigned, it isn’t for sure he will play much or if he can even keep up with their style of play.
To be able to come out of the West, Detroit will have to probably go through either the San Jose Sharks or Anaheim Ducks. Both teams gave Detroit trouble in last years playoff run.
Because they had to battle through San Jose first and took a lot of abuse during that series, I really believe the Wings were too beat up to go up against the tougher Ducks.
Adding a forward with size and skill will help Detroit to get over the hump.
