Less than a week after Freddie Roach's top fighter Manny Pacquiao defeated one Oscar, another member of the Wild Card Gym family was being mentioned as the front runner to claim an Oscar of another kind.

That's because the Golden Globes announced on Wednesday that Wild Card co-founder Mickey Rourke was nominated for Best Actor for his role in Darren Arononsky's upcoming film The Wrestler. The buzz on this film has been building since it debuted at the Toronto Film Festival in September and with the announcement Rourke quickly became the favorite to win Best Actor at this year's Academy Awards.

The Wild Card may be one of the best known gym's in boxing circles right now but it started it in Rourke's loft back in the early '90s. Mickey later fought a couple of highly publicized bouts in Japan before he "retired" from boxing.

Some people suggested he had retired from acting as well, but after a turn in Frank Miller's Sin City a couple of years back and now The Wrestler Mickey Rourke is all the way back.
