Kris Humphries is the latest addition to a long list of athletes who have experienced divorce, but the total length of his union with reality star Kim Kardashian is what makes his situation unique.

Kardashian and Humphries were married on August 20, 2011. Kim filed for divorce on October 31, 2011.

That’s only 72 days of marriage, but, hey, who’s counting?

Well, we are.

Here’s the list of the five most short-lived athlete marriages of all time.

1.) Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian

Kris Humphries is an average NBA player who has played for the Jazz, Raptors, Mavericks and most recently the Nets.

He is now at the peak of his fame in the wake of his divorce from Kim Kardashian.

Kris and Kim only made it 72 days.

This is such a short time that it raises questions as to whether this union could have been an elaborate publicity stunt.

The evidence for this theory is compelling. Some claim that Kim made millions of dollars off of the wedding, but she has publicly stated that she will be donating all wedding gifts to charity.

Nevertheless, this marriage was impressively short-lived and has earned the No. 1 spot on this list due to its brevity.

2.) Dennis Rodman and Carmen Electra

NBA Hall of Famer Dennis Rodman married model Carmen Electra in November of 1998.

The divorce came just five months later in April of 1999.

This marriage was plagued from the beginning. Almost immediately following the spontaneous wedding Rodman spoke about filing an annulment.

Dennis and Carmen decided to try out married life. This was a poor decision as there were many rumors that Rodman abused Electra physically.

Rodman and Electra were both arrested and charged with domestic battery a month after their divorce, but the charges were later dropped.

3.) Greg Norman and Chris Evert

Greg Norman is a professional golfer who was ranked as the world's best golfer for a span of 331 weeks in the '80s and '90s.

Chris Evert was a professional tennis player who ranked No. 1 in the world from 1975 to 1980.

These two former No. 1's couldn't make a marriage last as long as their respective reigns at No. 1.

They were married on June 28, 2008 and divorced on December 8, 2009.

Unlike the last two on the list, Norman and Evert mutually split on good terms.

There are several theories as to why they split including issues dealing with each other's children.

4.) Joe DiMaggio and Marilyn Monroe

Joe DiMaggio, the Hall of Fame center fielder, played his entire career for the New York Yankees from 1936 to 1951.

He kept busy after retirement though. On January 14, 1954 Joe married actress/singer/model Marilyn Monroe.

Their marriage would only last 274 days as Marilyn stated mental cruelty as her grounds for divorce.

Joe would never remarry and always seemed to hold Marilyn in high regard, refusing to speak about her publicly.

5.) Mike Tyson and Robin Givens

Mike Tyson, former world heavyweight champion, married model/actress Robin Givens on February 7, 1988.

In May of 1988 their marriage began to suffer when Givens had a miscarriage.

The divorce was finalized on Valentine's Day a in 1989.

Despite Givens' claims that Tyson abused her, she received a significant amount of negative press following the divorce.

Givens never signed a prenuptial agreement, but states that she didn't receive a settlement from Tyson in the divorce.

Honorable Mention

Andre Agassi, former world No. 1 professional tennis player, married actress Brooke Shields on April 19, 1997.

They were granted a divorce on April 9, 1999.

Since the marriage lasted almost two years it wasn't quite short-lived enough to make the list.

Professional hockey forward Sergei Fedorov and tennis star Anna Kournikova were supposedly married from 2001 to 2003, but the details have never been confirmed by Kournikova.

This situation was surrounded with controversy because Kournikova was very young when she was first spotted publicly with Fedorov during the 1997 Detroit Stanley Cup parade.

Fedorov is eleven years her senior. Anna was only 17 at the time.

It is clear that Kris Humphries and Kim Kardashian are not alone in rushing into marriage. They weren't the first and they won't be the last.

That being said, 72 days. Really?
