CBSSports.com's Danny Knobler is reporting that the Cleveland Indians have acquired Starting Pitcher Derek Lowe from the Atlanta Braves for a "low-level minor league player." The Braves will reportedly cover the majority of the $15 million left on Lowe's contract.
Lowe, 38, went 9-17 with a 5.05 ERA in 187 innings for the Braves in 2011. Although Lowe has encountered injury trouble the past few years, he has made at least 32 starts each season since 2002. Lowe has been a 15-game winner five times in his career, including the 2009 and 2010 seasons with the Braves.
The Indians now have a projected 2012 starting rotation of Ubaldo Jimenez, Justin Masterson, Fausto Carmona, Josh Tomlin and Derek Lowe.
Indians' GM Chris Antonetti has reportedly told the media in Cleveland to hold tight as this is just the beginning of what looks to be a busy offseason for the Tribe.
