Manchester United Transfers: 6 Players to Bring Revenge Against Manchester City
Manchester United had a solid victory against Everton at Goodison Park, and though the game was unspectacular for long periods, it was a deserved, hard-fought victory for the Red Devils. After their humiliating defeat at the hands of their rivals Manchester City at home, they needed a positive result against Everton, which they managed thanks to a solitary goal from Javier Hernandez, whose eye for goal can see him develop into a superb player for United in the future.
Though Sir Alex Ferguson would have been pleased with the victory, the scars of the game against City will remain and will only be removed if they can win the Premiership title ahead of Manchester City, who are in rampant form. The Red Devils are five points behind title leaders Manchester City but with a lot of games to go, the Premiership title is still very attainable for United.
The January transfer window will be important for Manchester United as they will look to strengthen their team in order to challenge for the title. City did expose United's weaknesses, but the Red Devils can still have the last laugh if they do improve, and new signings could play a huge role in deciding the title race.

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United are interested in signing Athletic Bilbao midfielder Javi Martinez, who has represented the Spanish U-21 team and also the senior team.
Martinez is one of the most talented midfielders in the world and can add steel and creativity to the Red Devils if he is signed. The 23-year-old midfielder has been compared with Spain's Xabi Alonso for his style of play, and he has the potential to be a world-class player in the future.
Though Tom Cleverley has shown glimpses of his quality, Manchester United might need to sign another quality midfielder in order to add depth to the team. Martinez, who is 6'3", will not only bring creativity but can also cope with the physicality and is tactically astute.
The 23-year-old will not come at a bargain, but with the resources at United, they can attract the midfielder to strengthen their side.
2. Mario Goetze (Borussia Dortmund)

Mario Goetze has established himself as one of the world's best young players and will only continue to progress with experience. It is clear that he is a player with huge potential, and he has already been called up to the Germany national team.
He played a key role for Dortmund in their title win last season and has come a long way in the last year. The midfielder, who has been dubbed as the "German Messi" by some, is certainly one of the best youngsters in the world and has attracted the interest of plenty of clubs.
It is important that he makes the right move at this age, and Sir Alex Ferguson has an excellent record of developing youngsters with potential such as Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo.
Dortmund will be reluctant to lose another of their players after losing Nuri Sahin to Real Madrid in the summer. According to this report, Ferguson has tracked the German international, and there exists the possibility of a move for the talented youngster.
3. Neven Subotic (Borussia Dortmund)

Manchester United's Rio Ferdinand had a bad game against Manchester City in their 1-6 defeat and was rightly criticized by many following that performance. With Ferdinand being affected by many injuries and bad form in the last year, Sir Alex Ferguson could consider signing a strong centre-back alongside Nemanja Vidic.
The 6'4" defender has established himself as one of the best defenders in Germany following his performances for Dortmund, and despite being only 22 years old, he has already made more than 100 league appearances for the club.
With Vidic turning 30, it will be good for United to rotate him so that he stays fit throughout the season. Subotic, who is rated at £20 million, will be a big asset to the club if he is signed.
4. Wesley Sneijder (Inter Milan)

Wesley Sneijder is one of the most talented attacking midfielders in the world, and he was linked with a move to Old Trafford in the summer but the deal did not materialize.
The Dutch midfielder, who is still at Inter Milan, has not had a great start to the season as Inter Milan have lost many games already and will struggle to compete for the title this season. Sneijder is a player who has the capability to create many goal-scoring opportunities, and he can be a great addition to the Red Devils.
Manchester United have missed the presence and assurance of Paul Scholes in midfield, and though Cleverley can become a key player in the near future, they are not dominating the midfield like they used to when Scholes was in his prime.
Sneijder is a player who could provide creativity from central midfield and can greatly improve the quality of the midfield. Though he is 27 years old and will cost a huge transfer fee and wages, he is still someone who can help them win the title if United can stay close enough to City before the January transfer window.
5. Jack Rodwell (Everton)

Jack Rodwell had an excellent impact against Manchester United in the 2009-10 season when he scored a decisive goal against the Red Devils. He has subsequently been linked with a number of clubs, but Everton have managed to hold on to the talented young prospect, who is also a regular fixture in the England U-21 team.
He has made over a 100 appearances for the club and can be regarded as one of the most promising English youngsters.Though he is not very flashy, he provides a solid platform for the attacking players and can also contribute effectively in attack.
Darren Fletcher has been a very reliable player for the Red Devils, but the midfielder has struggled with illness in recent months and he needs to have suitable competition in the team. Michael Carrick has proved to be inconsistent and has been ineffective as a defensive player in some games in the recent past.
Rodwell would undoubtedly bring more solidity in the midfield and would help the Red Devils both defensively and offensively. Also, at only 20 years of age, he could progress into a world-class player under the guidance of Sir Alex Ferguson and would be another important signing from Everton.
6. Marek Hamsik (Napoli)

Marek Hamsik is one of the most talented players in the world and has established himself as one of the most creative players in the Serie A. The Slovakian midfielder has shown that he has the quality to excel at the highest level and has attracted the interest of a number of top clubs.
He is also the captain of the Slovakia national team and has made great progress since he joined Napoli in 2007. He is still only 24 years old and is quite experienced, having made over 200 appearances since moving to Italy in 2004.
Manchester United do require a dynamic creative midfielder who can genuinely be a world-class player, and Hamsik can prove to be a great signing for United. Also, being experienced at the highest level, he would take lesser time to adapt to England than some of the younger players.
Sir Alex Ferguson could make a move for the Slovakian international, but Napoli will make efforts to resist the sale of their best midfielder as they aim to build on a good 2010-11 season.
