December is fast approaching and that means one thing in college football: conference championship games.
Conference championship games bring some of the best football of the year from the best teams in the country.
Perhaps the best of them all is the SEC Championship game. It's a shame we won't be able to see a rematch of the "Game of the Century" between No. 1 LSU and No. 2 Alabama since they are in the same division within the conference.
But, there will be some very good games in college football in the month of December, and we can only hope we get the best matchups possible.
After Clemson's blowout loss to Georgia Tech on Saturday, many would call for a rematch in the ACC Championship game to be the most ideal matchup.
But the best matchup in the ACC would be the Tigers vs. the Hokies of Virginia Tech as they are the two best teams in the conference.
In the first matchup, the Hokies got blown out at home 23-3, so you know they are dying for a chance at revenge.
A Tigers vs. Yellow Jackets rematch would be nice to see as well, but the better football game would be between Clemson and Virginia Tech.
If the season ended right now, the game would be between the Hokies and Tigers but that could all change of the Yellow Jackets knock off the Hokies on Thursday Nov. 10.
After the Hail Mary game between Michigan State and Wisconsin two weeks ago, the Big Ten Championship dream matchup was set in stone.
The only issue is that the Badgers went on to lose again on Saturday to Ohio State and now trail Penn State by two games in the Leaders division.
Michigan, Michigan State and Nebraska are all in a tie for the lead in the Legends division so the Big Ten Championship matchup is wide open.
Wisconsin will get a chance to hand the Nittany Lions one loss on Nov. 26 in Madison. Here's to hoping they lose another and the Spartans come out on top in the Legends division so we get the rematch of the Hail Mary game.
Many people will not pay attention to the Conference USA Championship game, but it will likely be a good football game.
In all likelihood, the matchup will be between Houston and Southern Miss as they are both the best teams in their divisions within the conference.
The Cougars sit at 8-0 as one of the few undefeated teams left in college football, and the Golden Eagles are 7-1.
They will not face each other in the regular season, so it is only natural that the two best teams in the conference meet in the conference championship game.
Houston will likely be looking to complete their undefeated season and Southern Miss will have no reserves about dashing the Cougars' dreams.
This will definitely be an under-the-radar game that will surprise people. If for no other reason, watch the game to check out Houston quarterback Case Keenum, who is breaking passing records left and right this season.
Like the Conference USA Championship game, not many people will pay attention to the MAC Championship game, but it could turn out to be a good football game.
Toledo has looked like the best team in the MAC West so far this season as they came just five points short of knocking off the Ohio State Buckeyes.
In the East, Ohio and Temple look like they will battle it out for the chance to go to the MAC Championship game.
A matchup between Toledo and Temple would seem to be the ideal game between MAC opponents with the Rockets' high-scoring offense going against the Owls' second-ranked defense in points against.
The first matchup between these two teams was a blowout in favor of Toledo, 36-13, and the Owls are itching for a chance at revenge.
Unfortunately, we won't be able to see a matchup between Oregon and Stanford in the Pac-12 Championship or a rematch of the triple-overtime bout between the Cardinal and the Trojans of USC.
The Ducks and Cardinal are in the same division within the conference, and the Trojans are banned from the game because of NCAA violations.
Ideally, we'd like to see the triple OT rematch, but we will have to settle for something far less—Stanford vs. Arizona State.
The two teams will not face each other in the regular season, but should they meet in the Pac-12 Championship game, the Sun Devils will likely have a shot to end Stanford's unscathed season.
That alone should give you reason to watch.
If that doesn't attract you, watch to see the near perfection of Cardinal quarterback Andrew Luck.
Although we won't be able to see the matchup we want, the Pac-12 Championship game will be some good football.
The obvious answer here would be Alabama vs. LSU, but unfortunately for football fans, that is not possible as they are both in the SEC West.
That being said, the ideal matchup for the SEC has to be the Crimson Tide against the Gamecocks of South Carolina.
The "Ol' Ball Coach" against Nick Saban.
Personally, I want to see Alshon Jeffrey go against the dominant Crimson Tide defense.
Unfortunately for the SEC, the conference championship game is likely to be a blow out, whether it be Alabama or LSU facing off against one of the lesser teams from the SEC East like South Carolina, Georgia or Florida.
The biggest storyline of the game would be whether Alabama or LSU get the win to advance to the BCS National Championship game, because if they lose, madness could ensue in the BCS.
