The Carolina Panthers and Minnesota Vikings engaged in one of the most exciting games of Week 8. Cam Newton drove the Panthers down in the final minute, but Olindo Mare shanked a field goal that would have tied the game.

Adrian Peterson was quiet running the football in the first half, yet he was able to break out in the second. He finished with 86 yards rushing, 76 receiving and two touchdowns.

Christian Ponder earned his first win of the season in only his second start. By no means was he spectacular, but he was efficient and crucial to the Vikings' success.

Newton finished with a career-high three touchdowns and finished with 290 yards passing.

Carolina has next week off and then will host Tennessee. Minnesota also has next week off and it will take on Green Bay in Week 10.

Finals score: Vikings 24, Panthers 21
