Done Deal: J.J. Putz Becomes a Met

For weeks Mets fans have been waiting for this week to get the ball rolling for 2009. So far so GREAT. K-Rod is just what the doctor ordered. Despite all the posturing, Frankie was Omar's first choice all along.

Perhaps this will be the year that Omar gets his due as one of the shrewdest GMs in the business. Year after year he has turned this once miserable franchise into a powerhouse that certainly can be at the highest level of contention for the coming decade.

Perhaps we can finally hear a stop to the bigoted racists out there who think we are becoming, if not already, " The Latin Mets." So what! It just so happens that in this century the Latin Players are the most talented players in the MLB, and the future says there will be even more.

It's being reported that the Mets are closing in on a deal that would bring J.J. Putz to the Mets with others while giving up Heilman, Joe Smith, Endy Chavez, and minor leaguer Mike Carp. That would be enormous as we would get the setup man we want and frankly give away not really that much. Joe Smith is a good one, but with Parnell and Kunz in the headlights, it's a tremendous deal if we pull it off.

Here are a couple of other pretty hot rumors. Ibanez is definitely on the radar, and the starting pitcher to be had is Derek Lowe. On the back burner, Garland and Wolf are secondary plans, and yes, as I hoped and predicted, we very well may see a ready and able Pedro in April.

The last two prizes that would be absolutely icing on the cake would be Orlando Hudson and Manny. Put all of it together, as I wrote and hoped for six weeks ago, and 2009 will be ours.

NEWS FLASH: The Mets have acquired J.J. Putz from the Mariners. The Mets sent Aaron Heilman to the Mariners and Joe Smith to the Indians. WOW.
