College Football Predictions: Big Ten Conference Picks Against the Spread
Saturday’s Big Ten slate is highlighted by a battle of Top 15 teams when red hot Michigan State heads to Nebraska, with the Big Ten Legends Division Championship likely on the line.
All Big teams are in action on the final Saturday in October, so let’s take a look at how they will do against the line.
Michigan State at Nebraska: While it's tempting to take the Huskers here, I like the Spartans defense, who is battle tested, to be able to neutralize Martinez and win a close road game. Take the Spartans and the points. Michigan State 24 Nebraska 20.
Northwestern (-8.5) at Indiana: Northwestern is on a slide and quarterback Dan Persa is banged up. Take the Hoosiers at home and the points. Northwestern 24 Indiana 17.
Purdue at Michigan (-14): Michigan needs to rebound after the Michigan State loss and will against Purdue. The Boilermakers have been playing well for three quarters but can’t close teams out. Look for that trend to continue. Michigan wins but fails to cover. Michigan 30 Purdue 17
Illinois at Penn State: Illinois is coming off back-to-back losses after beginning the season 6-0. The Penn state defense is much better than the one that faced the Illini last time the schools met. That will be the difference. Take the Nittany Lions to win and cover the number. Penn State 27 Illinois 16.
Iowa (-15.5) at Minnesota: The Hawkeyes are a 5-2 team but has yet to win a game on the road, but will take care of that against the Big Ten’s worst team. Iowa wins big. Iowa 38 Minnesota 17.
Wisconsin (-7.5) at Ohio State: Wisconsin has to do something new this year and that’s take the field following a loss. There may be some hangover there, but Russell Wilson and company will shake it off before long. Look for the Buckeyes to keep it close at home and in primetime before the badgers pull away late. Wisconsin 24 Ohio State 13
