Seriously, Joey Porter commented on the Plaxico Burress situation. I'll cut the usual reporter spin and just post the quotes.
"Until you've been in that situation," Porter said, "when you've been robbed at gunpoint or you've had a gun waved in your face or had your house broken into before or been carjacked, you really don't know what it's like."
"You're not carrying a gun for...'Oh I'm just gonna carry a gun to show that I'm tough,' " Porter said. "It's safety."
Porter was shot in the buttocks in August 2003 in the parking lot of a Denver bar.
"When you get out of a situation like that and you've been in harm's way, the first thing that goes through your mind, I'd rather get caught and take the little penalty from the media, whatever the situation may be, than not have a chance to save my life," Porter said.
"Look at all the guys that have been robbed this year," he said. "It's a tough situation. We're always in the spotlight. You can't tell a person to stop living his life."
"Who do you really trust?" Porter said.
OK, so the quotes themselves are not insane. Heck, I agree with some of them.
It does not change the facts that:
1) Burress plays for ANOTHER team.
2) Porter was in no way involved.
3) Porter, who has defended Michael Vick, has a reputation for spouting on topics that, to be polite, are not directly rated to his business.
I blame the idiot reporter who asked him the questions. We know Porter has diarrhea of the mouth.
Asking him to comment is like asking Obama to comment on the women's NCAA Lacrosse tournament. You'll get quotes, but so what?
Obama would have as clear an analysis of something he does not know about as much as Porter.*
*apologies if Obama is a big women's NCAA Lacrosse fan.
