Zach Parise: The New Jersey Devils' Young Leader

joseph eastmondContributor IDecember 10, 2008

Zach Parise, the Devils' 2003 first-round pick (17th overall) is showing that he deserved to be chosen in the first round.

Playing as well as Pittsburgh's Sidney Crosby, the 2005 first-overall pick, Parise is leading the team with 28 points, 15 goals, four power-play goals, and a plus-12. He is also tied with Brian Gionta for second with 13 assists behind Elias, who has 14 assists.

Parise also scored the game-winning goal in overtime against Montreal on December 6.

Parise has shown tremendous talent and leadership capabilities since joining the team. He has been working hard and is quickly becoming a true hockey legend.

He has two game-winning goals this year, and 22 in his career.  Although never topping 60 or more points more than twice , he's the kind of who will do so in his later years.

Can we compare him to some of other hockey's past greats? We'll just have to see, won't we?
