Appalachian State Football: Mountaineers Bound for LSU in '08

The BCS Champion Louisiana State Tigers will host defending Division I FCS Champions Appalachian State in the 2008 season.

The news came earlier this week, when LSU found an opening in their already challenging 2008 schedule.

ASU answered the call, and will travel to the Bayou and try to shock the National Champions at home, much like they did in Michigan to the No. 5-ranked Wolverines at the beginning of last season.

If you do not recall that game, Appalachian State held their own against a much stronger and highly talented university. 

The defining moment was when Corey Lynch, a safety for ASU, busted through the Michigan offensive line during a game winning field goal attempt in the final seconds of the game. Lynch blocked the attempt, returned the ball halfway down the field to defeat Michigan 34-32 as time expired, along with the Wolverines' reputation for the rest of the season.

That game in the early '07 season will be remembered for decades.  ASU finished the '07 season 12-2, winning the FCS Southern conference championship. 

The team topped off a seven-game win streak by defeating Delaware 49-21.

On September 8th, 2007, No. 9 Virginia Tech were the last underdog team projected to tame LSU. In the end, however, they only fed the Tigers, with LSU chomping the Hokies 48-7 in the Bayou.

LSU, coming off of a big win 38-24 vs. No. 1 Ohio State, will have their hands full with the determined Mountaineers.

LSU defeated Appalachian State 24-0 in 2005.

Can LSU hold their composure against a determined Appalachian State team led by three-time champion QB Armanti Edwards and come out with a win?

Or will the Tigers falter, as the Wolverines did, and be toppled by the Mountaineers?
