WWE Vengeance 2011 - How it SHOULD be booked and how it WILL be booked

There are always two ways to cut it in professional wrestling: how the cards SHOULD be booked, and how they actually WILL be booked. And they are not always one in the same.

Below I have taken a look at the card as advertised and am giving a quick analysis. It’s an average ppv with moderate potential. How successful this ends up being will depends on what surprises may or may or not be in store coupled whether anyone delivers a show stealing type performance

How it SHOULD be booked:

Triple H and CM Punk vs. The Miz and R-Truth

Oh my god, I worry about the ego of this guy. Neither HHH nor Punk need the win here and in fact by not giving it to the Miz and Truth, one leaves them serving no purpose other than random segments in which they will be used to shake up the establishment.

Winners The Miz and R-Truth

United States Championship Match: Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Zack Ryder

Ryder’s internet sensation buzz is starting to wear off. If they do not pull the trigger on Ryder for a title here, I will be a bit shocked. If he is going to be promoted as a big deal, he has got to do more then get fluke wins. Ziggler has been a great champion and should get the belt back shortly. But a nice little pop for Ryder to help him bloat out his resume is the right thing to do.

Winner Zack Ryder

Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes

No-brainer here in that Rhodes needs to look like a main eventer, and beating Orton would do just that. Orton is a bit of a darling and will still have fan support despite any win or loss record. And one would assume this will be the first of many meetings, so a loss is not that big of a deal.

Winner Cody Rhodes

Sheamus vs. Christian

This one I am really on the fence with. I think that Christian has been pushed aside a bit now that Edge has stepped away from the scene. Christian has been on a nice little roll and people were buying him as a legit threat.

Not so much anymore. So he needs the win. Sheamus seems to have developed into a fan favourite who is getting cheered regardless, so a loss won’t bother him much.

Winner Christian

WWE Tag Team Championship Match: Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger

I think there is merit to having some gold in the newly forming stable under Vickie Guerrero. There are story lines to be written about who was the reason they won, and it legitimizes why folks would want to join the stable (to be winners). Air Boom (worst name ever) can chase for a while and keep this fresh.

Winners Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger

Divas Championship:Beth Phoenix (c) vs. Eve

Beth is a dominant force and with the belts in WWE moving around as much as they have as of late, this needs to be kept on Phoenix, and for an extended period of time to build her street cred.

Winner Beth Phoenix

World Heavyweight Championship Match: Mark Henry (c) vs. Big Show

Henry has been nothing short of brilliant in the monster heel role. One almost has to assume he could be the guy who will be poised to threaten Undertaker at Mania if they can find a creative way to stretch this feud out.

Winner Mark Henry

Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Championship: Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. John Cena

Del Rio is just getting some credibility back and with a decisive win over Cena he would certainly cement his presence as a legitimate main eventer.

Winner Del Rio

How it WILL be booked:

Triple H and CM Punk vs. The Miz and R-Truth

Sadly, I fear Mr. Ego is going to rear his ugly head and want to get the win. It reeks of his win over Sheamus at Mania not too long ago, which set that poor kid's push back months. I am hoping this is where we see Nash show back up to get involved with HHH again.

It SHOULD be a case where he costs HHH the victory, but my gut is concerned that perhaps a plot by Nash to get back at HHH will somehow work against Truth and Miz, resulting in the “good guys” winning.

Winners Triple H and CM Punk

United States Championship Match: Dolph Ziggler (c) vs. Zack Ryder

Dolph has been the consummate pro in the locker room and he seems to be playing ball with the right people. This guy has star written all over him. While it may be the moment in time Ryder will look back and say “yep, that is when my career started to head down the hill,” so be it. Ziggler will go into the books as one of the greatest mid-upper card level talents of our time. And to think he was a Spirit Squad member…

Winner Dolph Ziggler

Randy Orton vs. Cody Rhodes

I know the sheets have suggested that Vince in particular is high on Rhodes right now but it seems that Orton never stays on a losing streak for long. Rhodes is meeting Orton on a much more level playing field now (rather than as his lackey as was always the case before). I hope I am wrong, but I just fear that Orton will sneak out a victory and the fans will all "ooh" and "ahh" on cue.

Winner Randy Orton

Sheamus vs. Christian

There have to be a couple of feel-good moments of the night and I think this may specifically be one. Sheamus has seen unanticipated levels of popularity lately and is now looked to as one of the main four faces (Punk, Cena and HHH being the others) in the company. He wouldn’t exactly be harmed by a win, but I think he’s got enough fan support that it's not required. Regardless, this is likely going to be a happy ending for the pasty one.

Winner Sheamus

WWE Tag Team Championship Match:Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler and Jack Swagger

Assuming in this scenario (of match endings) that Ziggler keeps the belt, it sort of allows there to be some focus on Swagger and Ziggler and some internal issues within the burgeoning faction that Vickie is building. If we assume Ziggler retains earlier in the night then there will not likely be a situation that sees him with two belts. At least not at this time.

Winners Evan Bourne and Kofi Kingston

Divas Championship: Beth Phoenix (c) vs. Eve

My knee jerk reaction is always to say “who cares” about the ladies, but that would make me seem incredibly shallow and callous. Oops. In any event, there seems to be a lot of mileage left in this Kelly Kelly versus Phoenix “thing” that seems to be going on. It’s the only relevant women's wrestling thing going on within WWE so it’s a good idea if they keep Beth with the strap to set up the eventual turn in which she and Natalya go one-on-one.

Winner Beth Phoenix

World Heavyweight Championship Match: Mark Henry (c) vs. Big Show

I was tempted to say Show, as it would be a great surprise. You could introduce Taker and somehow have him cost Henry the title. I just don’t see Big Show with any deserving title run afoot. And I think there is more mileage in having Henry keep the belt for a while and let Big Show get in some good offense before eating Henry's finisher like the rest of the locker room.

Winner Mark Henry

Last Man Standing Match for the WWE Championship:Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. John Cena

I have faith here that with some interference or shenanigans, the bad guy will hold the belt. And the whole idea around Mania in March is for Rock and Cena to battle, which requires no belt whatsoever. Let the rest of the good guys chase Del Rio for the next while. Punk included.

Winner Del Rio
