Stephon Marbury is officially out for the season, thanks to ankle surgery.

Whether this is good or bad news for Knicks fans is entirely up to you.

Marbury's surgery, which was originally thought to have been a routine process, turned out to be a little more complicated than planned.

Bone spurs were not the only thing that needed to be removed from Marbury's ankle.

According to the New York Post, the operation that took place two and a half weeks ago was originally expected to take half an hour, but required two hours of Dr. William Hamilton's time to complete.

Dr. William Hamilton also discovered seven separate bone fragments which needed to be operated upon.

Meanwhile, Marbury still has one year left on his contract. The New York Post reports that the Knicks will try to shop this around the league. If no one wants to pick it up, buying it out is always an option for New York.

Last Thursday, Knicks head coach Isiah Thomas said the following concerning Marbury:

"He was a good basketball player. He was a threat on the floor."

Does this mean that Marbury's career in New York is over? One can only speculate, but my guess would be that Isiah and Marbury are finally parting ways.
