WWE Vengeance 2011: Orton vs Rhodes Should Be for the Intercontinental Title

This Sunday will see current Intercontinental Champion, Cody Rhodes, square off against long time rival Randy Orton.

Some may remember when Rhodes first showed up in WWE his first match was with Orton. Now years later Rhodes has blossomed into a great competitor in his own right, holding victories over former world champions like Rey Mysterio.

Rhodes is slated by many to be the next star to gain his first world championship. His recent introduction of the classic intercontinental title has brought the belt a bit more attention.

This could be the match of the night as both men are top-tier performers, and when they get in the ring together, can put on quite a show.

The title being on the line would add some credibility to the belt as well as show that not all former world champions will only go after world titles.

Chris Jericho won the IC title after having been a multiple-time world champion, and CM Punk has said he wants to hold the US title to round out his collection.

If this match is a way to get Rhodes over then putting the title on the line would only increase the visibility of the rivalry. But if the match is going to be a win for Orton than I get not wanting to take the title from Rhodes.

Having Orton win the title would not necessarily be a bad thing though as it could extend what could be a great singles feud through the next couple PPV events until the Royal Rumble.

Rhodes has been looking better and better each week and while he may not be the biggest dog in the fight, he is certainly the one with the most potential.

I am sure we will see Rhodes hold a world title someday. He deserves it after all the hard work he has put into his time in WWE to find the right gimmick, then take it to the next level.

I hope Rhodes gets the win this Sunday as I think beating Orton could help push him into that next level where he could start pursuing the world heavyweight championship on Smackdown.

I am looking forward to Sunday's PPV as there are many great match ups that could go either way.

Who do you think will win the showdown between Rhodes and Orton?
