WVU Dismissals: Bill Stewart Sends the Right Message

On Thursday, West Virginia football coach Bill Stewart dismissed RB Ed Collington, LB John Holmes, and DT James Ingram for, well, being boneheaded idiots.

Technically, they were arrested not only for possession of weed, but, even better, with intent to distribute.

Ingram went so far as to tell the cops he had dope at home and, hey, why not come on back to my apartment and I’ll show you?

Proving the idiocy, as if any proof were needed.

The scuttlebutt out of Morgantown is that Stewart believes the former head football coach and even Coach Nehlen before him were too easy on team offenders.

Before the 2007 season started, CB Ellis Lankster and LB J.T. Thomas were arrested for boosting a laptop from a party and then telling cops, when pulled over, that they’d bought the computer in a McDonald’s parking lot.

The pair were suspended for a few weeks, got a legal slap on the wrist, and ended up playing in most of the team's games.

And don’t forget former CB Pacman Jones, who as a freshman whipped some poor student with a pool cue before going on to a long and fine career with the Mountaineers.

Before the Fiesta Bowl, Stewart told his players that if they got out of line, they’d pay the price—“Cub and Boy Scout honor.”

It’s good to see him keep his word.
