Deer Hunting: Weekend Weather Report for Country's Most Popular Spots
Any expert deer hunter knows that weather plays a huge role in the success they have out in the woods.
Many beginning hunters don't realize how big of a role the weather plays in the movement of deer, but these animals are very picky in deciding when to come out and play.
It should be obvious to everyone that cold weather is the best for deer hunting, but some believe that deer like to be active when the weather is warmer. That is simply not true, as they would rather sleep during the day and awake at night, when it is cooler.
Rain is another deciding factor in whether or not the deer come out. If there is a torrential downpour, the deer will generally remain where they are until the rain slows.
Cold days are the best for hunting, and nearly every avid hunter will tell you that. Waking up at three a.m. and hitting the woods on a negative 20 degree day, is one of the joys of hunting.
However, the best day for hunting is a cold day with a slight rain. This is generally a common time for deer to be on the move, and an expert hunter can really capitalize with multiple kills in one day.
Every hunter has also heard the old wives' tales about how deer don't move when it's windy, but this is more myth than fact. If the winds are ferocious and the deer have a difficult time standing, that may hold true. However, wind gusts generally don't keep the deer from moving.
Another essential time to hit the woods is immediately before and after a storm. Deer have a good sense of anticipating bad weather, so they look to get to a safe location immediately before the storm, and move out of that location immediately after the storm.
Pick and choose your spots to hunt wisely, as the weather has a huge impact on just how many deer will cross your path.
Unusually warm weather has hampered deer hunting in Wisconsin, but the weather is changing. There should be a chance to catch some bucks in northern and southern Wisconsin.
Overview
Dnr.wi.gov fills us in on how the warm weather has effected the hunting and the upcoming changes in the weather:
Unseasonably warm and pleasant weather continued over the last week but appears to be coming to the end with rain showers this week being followed by a cold front.
Temperatures last weekend reached 80 degrees in many parts of the state, which made it very pleasant to be outdoors, but made for very warm conditions for the youth deer hunt, which had some youths out hunting in blaze orange T-shirts.
Despite the warm weather, some youth hunters were successful, with several nice bucks taken in the north.
Deer hunting continues this week Thursday through Sunday in the chronic wasting disease management zone in southern Wisconsin.
Hunters report the warm weather continued to hamper deer movement and pre-rut activity, though scrapes and rubs are still being found.
Weekend Weather Reports
Northern Wisconsin is going to feature much cooler, but still pleasant conditions. Weather.com predicts the weather for the weekend in the area of the Northern Wisconsin Fairgrounds as highs of 56,57 and 54 on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Friday and Saturday are predicted to be mostly sunny with that giving way to showers on Sunday.
Meanwhile, weather.com is reporting a sunny weekend for southern Wisconsin based on their forecast for Wisconsin. They are reporting highs of 57, 62 and 59 for Friday, Saturday and Sunday with few clouds and lots of sun.

Norther Michigan looks like the place to be for deer hunters this weekend. However, if you are planning to stay in the southern half of the state, you have a good weekend ahead as well.
Overview
13abc.com gives an overview of information released by the Department of Natural Resources:
The Department of Natural Resources released its annual deer forecast Monday. It says numbers are rising in northern Michigan because of mild weather the past two winters.
In the Upper Peninsula, the forecast says fawn production and antlered buck numbers should be good. It predicts more deer for the southern U.P. near Lake Michigan than the northern U.P. closer to Lake Superior.
The population appears excessive on some private lands in the northern Lower Peninsula, while numbers are rising slowly but still below goal in some publicly owned areas.
Southern Michigan continues to offer high-quality habitat and plentiful deer.
Weekend Forecasts
Upnorthlive.com predicts mild weather for northern Michigan this weekend.
They have partly cloudy with a high of 50 on Friday and sunny on Saturday and Sunday with highs of 55 and 54.
Wunderground.com predicts very similar weather for southeast Michigan.
There is a 20 percent chance of rain on Friday with a high of 54. Saturday and Sunday are expected to be partly cloudy with a of 54 and 56.
Wunderground.com predicts exactly similar, except the chance of rain on Friday, for southwest Michigan.
