At the risk of alienating the rest of the nation—why not a rematch of the two best teams from the best conference year in and year out?
If Texas and Oklahoma can argue for an all Big 12 National Championship, then why isn't the SEC making a similar argument. All four teams finished 12 - 1.
Take away a couple of Tide miscues and the failure of the refs to call a couple of obvious infractions and the game could have easily gone the Tide's way—easily.
Alabama lost to Florida by 11 points and Oklahoma lost to Texas by 10. However, Texas thoroughly whipped Oklahoma, and Florida beat Alabama only with the aid of a face mask call and the failure of a referee to call two very obvious holding calls; one that resulted in a Florida touchdown.
Why not compromise and allow Texas vs. Oklahoma and Alabama vs. Florida, and then allow the winners to play in a National Championship game? Now that's a novel idea.
And by the way, who really cares about USC, anyway?
