WWE Vengeance: Why Alberto Del Rio Has Lost All of His Momentum

A.D. Christian VitaleCorrespondent IIOctober 18, 2011

Hello, Bleacher Report!

Today, I want to talk about the current WWE Champion, Alberto Del Rio, and why he no longer has any momentum going into Vengeance.

When Alberto Del Rio won the WWE Championship at Summerslam, I was thrilled. After months of trying to get the strap on him, they finally were able to do it to close the show. I felt that after the other failed championship runs by rookies, they would have learned what to do and what not to do.

I guess I was wrong.

At Night of Champions, John Cena reclaimed the WWE Championship as a way for WWE to increase RAW's declining ratings. They managed to get rating up, but in my opinion, that cost was too great.

It took months for Alberto Del Rio's character to be considered a legitimate threat. However, when the time finally came for Alberto Del Rio to run Monday nights, they didn't risk it and give it back to John Cena.

WWE soon realized this mistake and decided that they needed to get the title back to him. They built up Alberto fairly well going into Hell in a Cell and allowed him to capture a second world title at the PPV.

You would think they would want to make Alberto as credible as possible going into a match with the man who beat him a Night of Champions, right? Wrong.

Instead of giving us a champion prepared to defend his title, we are given nothing more than a champion who acts cowardly and gets destroyed by Cena.

Two weeks ago, Alberto walked out during a tag team match where he was teaming with CM Punk against Awesome Truth. This past episode of RAW, he tagged himself out of a match against John Cena and Jim Ross and left Michael Cole to fend for himself.

Following that sad showing by ADR, he attempted an after match attack on Cena where he was immediately hit with the AA and knocked out by the metal steps.

Now that I have given you a brief overview, I want to talk about how this will play off at Vengeance. This Sunday, the match type almost guarantees that somebody will run in to help Del Rio. But who?

My guess is either Awesome Truth, Vickie's Stable, Ricardo Rodriquez or a returning superstar.

We will know soon enough, though. My hope is that ADR has a great showing at Vengeance and gains the credibility he needs to be worthy of holding the top title.
