Next week the Major League Baseball winter meetings will take place in Las Vegas, and it should be a busy week for unsigned players.
The Twins have a big task in front of them. The Twins have been competing with the Dodgers for free agent Casey Blake.
Blake would be a valuable addition to the Twins. He would give the team a much needed power source. He hit .274 last season, with 21 home runs, and 81 RBI. He also had a .345 OBP, and .463 SLG percentage. Casey Blake is a third baseman, and would help the Twins fill a hole at third base.
Reportedly this week, the Twins website says that the club has offered Blake a two-year contract, and an option for the 2011 season. In the contract, Blake would receive $6 million per year. The Dodgers have also offered Blake a two-year contract. Right now the Twins and Dodgers remain the front-runners for Blake.
I would like to see Blake in a Twins uniform, especially since he would bring good power, and decent average to the team. It will be interesting to see in the next few days if the Twins can stay in the race, and hopefully add Blake to their 2009 team.
