The LSU Tigers took the No. 1 spot in the first BCS Rankings

The first official BCS rankings of the 2011 season were released last night, and to no one’s surprise, the LSU Tigers reigned supreme.

LSU just barely edged out SEC West counterpart Alabama, who took the No. 2 spot, followed by Oklahoma at No. 3, Oklahoma State at No. 4 and Boise State at No. 5.

That means that if all goes according to plan, there will be two games that will end up deciding the national title game participants: LSU at Alabama on Nov. 5 and Oklahoma at Oklahoma State on Dec. 3.

As we know, though, the college football food chain can change drastically on any given weekend, and this may not be just a four-horse race.

It will certainly be fun to watch the standings evolve over the coming weeks, but as of now, all we can do is break down the first rankings.

Keep it locked here for all the analysis and news you need about this week’s BCS Rankings.
