Jacksonville Jaguars: Hires Gregg Williams as Defensive Coordinator

RealFootball365.comSenior Writer IFebruary 8, 2008

The Jacksonville Jaguars reportedly are set to hire Gregg Williams as their new defensive coordinator. Williams, recently fired from his job as Washington Redskins's DC, will replace Mike Smith, who was hired to coach the Atlanta Falcons.

Commentary

This certainly wasn't what Williams was expecting. He seemed set to be the successor to Joe Gibbs in Washington, but after several interviews with owner Daniel Snyder, Williams not only wasn't promoted, he was fired!

He then flirted with Dallas before the Jaguars came calling—quite a fall from grace for the former Buffalo Bills coach.

But as long as he does a good job in Jacksonville, he should merit another look as head coach by some team somewhere down the road.

Fantasy Football Impact

Williams—an aggressive, successful coach—should keep the Jags' defense among the top groups in the league.
