Beginning next season, Premiership managers will finally be allowed to name seven substitutes to their bench for league games.
This long overdue move finally brings the Premiership in line with most other major leagues such as Spain's La Liga, Italy's Calcio, and the Scottish Premier League as well as European competitions.
It has not yet been made clear if the seven-sub rule will apply for domestic cup matches or lower leagues, but it is surely a welcome addition to the Premiership game. Managers will benefit from an increased choice of possible changes and the opportunity to include more youngsters in a matchday squad.
Tottenham's Daniel Levy put forward the proposal and a number of high-profile clubs—Liverpool and Manchester United among them—were known to be in favor of the move.
A minimum of 14 of the 20 Premiership clubs must vote favorably to back any changes to the laws of the league.

About time this happened to be honest – as much as it will favour the bigger clubs with larger squads it will also lead to youngsters being given more of a chance as they are more likely to be put on the bench (and not necessarily just to make up the numbers).
Mourinho often spoke of his displeasure about having to limit his substitutes to five players as this gave him no room to include youngsters as he had to have the strongest bench possible in case of injuries or the game going against him. He campaigned that with seven he would have been able to include at least one, maybe two younger players who could then be given valuable experience if the game is going well/already won.

Daniel who???
I knew that Sir Alex asked the EPL several month back so that he could have more options in his subs bench...
Neways, it's a good one, but it wud have been better if 4 subs cud be used per match..

Yeah 3 subs is more than enough...considering all 3 are rarely used apart from too waste time. Too many subs simply ruin matches...look at international friendlies.

I don't agree, three subs is fine as it is. Any more and things would get a bit silly and you would see even more evidence of the richer clubs hoarding up all the best players for their squad.

I believe in Internationals temas can use 5 subs or so..is that stupid??
by using more than 3..like 4 subs, the game can get more intersting..
but let's stay with the cult...3 are enuf
