After a fruitful journey to Dubai for the opening round of the 2008/09 IRB World Sevens Series, Kenya are looking to perform even better in George, South Africa when the second leg kicks off later this afternoon.

The Kenyans arrive in George with six points, courtesy of a plate final appearance, narrowly losing out to Samoa 7-12 in an energy sapping final.

En-route to the final, Kenya had rallied from 0-19 to beat Argentina in the semi final and had earlier given mighty New Zealand one big scare when they led 12-7 at half time in the main cup quarter final. New Zealand had to dig deep to grab a narrow 21-17 win that eventually consigned Kenya to the plate competition.

The speedy Collins Injera crowned Kenya's excellent performance in Dubai when he emerged the tournament's top try scorer with seven tries.

His form and the fact that the ever improving Kenyans have been placed in a seemingly straight forward Pool D alongside Samoa, Wales and Portugal  has everyone believing and expecting a competent performance from the team.

Tournament report out Monday.
