Week 6 Start Em Sit Em: Matthew Stafford or Ben Roethlisberger?
Welcome to the sixth edition of the fantasy football mailbag!
This next question comes to us from Ryan Hensley,
Matthew Stafford has been dynamite this season so far this season, why would we expect anything different?
At this point, the numbers don't lie.
On the surface, Stafford has been the better fantasy option to this point. He has thrown for 1,436 yards and 13 touchdowns this season, while Ben Roethlisberger has 1,376 yards and eight touchdowns.
To make matters worse, five of Big Ben's eight touchdowns came last week against the Tennessee Titans.
Stafford faces the San Francisco 49ers this week, who boast the 10th worst pass defense in the NFL, while Big Ben plays the 10th best pass defense in the NFL.
The biggest argument for benching Stafford comes in the form of QB pressure. The 49ers have gotten pressure on the QB 75 times already this season, and have recorded 13 sacks.
If that worries you, it won't anymore.
So far this season, Stafford has been the fifth best QB against with pressure in his face. According to Pro Football Focus, he has completed 64 percent of passes with pressure on him, and has only thrown one interception.
It's nearly impossible to run on the 49ers, so the Lions are going to have to throw the ball to be successful this week.
Another factor to consider is that the Steelers didn't have star RB Rashard Mendenhall last week. With him back in the lineup this week, the Steelers are bound to run the ball more.
Stafford is your guy, and he shouldn't be doubted this week.
