Packing for Vegas: College Basketball Picks Dec. 4

Andrew KahnCorrespondent IDecember 4, 2008

Yesterday was a dream day. Going 4-1 was really great for me, especially since my big play—North Carolina—was a big winner. UNC's rout of Michigan State, combined with Wake Forest's dismantling of Indiana and West Virginia's nail-biting win against Mississippi, enabled me to have a profitable night.

My only loss was the Missouri Valley play, Arkansas-Little Rock, and that was a blind faith pick (my expert let me down, but I still have faith in him).

Tonight I like the Texas Longhorns at home against UCLA. Last season, when the Bruins had a far better team than they do at this point this year, Texas went into Pauley Pavilion and came out with victorious. With Texas having an even stronger inside presence this season, I just don't see how UCLA can compete on the inside.

Come March, UCLA will be poised to make another tournament run, although expecting another trip to the Final Four might be asking a bit too much. Right now, however, Texas is the much better team.

I think it shows in Austin tonight, as Texas (-6) wins by nine or more.

Today's pick: Texas -6; 1 unit

Season Record: 14-6 (70%); +13.4 units
