No. 17 Boston College vs. No. 25 Virginia Tech

December 6, 2008

1:00 pm ET

Raymond James Stadium, Tampa, FL

Spread: Pick

How they got here...

Boston College won a head-to-head tiebreaker over Florida State in the ACC Atlantic, thanks to the Eagles 27-17 win over the Seminoles.

Virginia Tech's head-to-head win over Georgia Tech way back in September proved to be the difference in the ACC Coastal, as both teams finished conference play 5-3.

Statistically speaking...

Boston College is looking for it's first ACC title and BCS berth. The Eagles beat the Hokies in the regular season last year, before dropping the conference championship rematch, 30-16.

Boston College wins if...

The Eagles turn the ball over fewer than five times. In the October meeting between these two teams, Boston College fumbled twice and two of Chris Crane's three interceptions were returned for touchdowns. Yet BC still managed a 28-23 victory.

Virginia Tech wins if...

Hokies quarterback Tyrod Taylor can use his feet to move the chains. In the last meeting with Boston College, he ran for more yards (110) than he passed for (90). Assuming he can be more efficient throwing the football, picking up a few first downs with his feet could be the difference.

B/R Expert Picks...

Ben Weixlmann  Boston College

I still think Tyrod Taylor is too young.

Lisa Horne  Boston College

Tech continues to have QB woes and besides, BC already beat them once this year.

miamimitchdotcom  Boston College

Just playing better football of the two right now.

David Wunderlich  Virginia Tech

I can't take a young quarterback in his second ever start against Frank Beamer, Bud Foster, and the new ACC overlords.

GeorgiaDawg  Boston College

No revenge for the Hokies this season, as BC's defense dominates the Hokies for the second time this season.

Michael Cline  Virginia Tech

A rematch from a game in which Boston College came out with an early win against the Hokies. Both teams are capable of winning this game, but for the Eagles, it's hard to beat a team twice in the same season, especially a more experienced Hokie team.

Trey Bradley  Virginia Tech

If the Hokies were able beat Matt Ryan in a rematch last year, I'll take Frank Beamer over the Eagles redshirt freshman Dominique Davis in the 2008 rematch, despite the fact that he still hasn't been picked.

Brian Scott  Boston College

BC is peaking at the right time - at the end of the season; also while the Hokies have beaten only one ranked team this season, the Eagles have beaten two ranked teams this year, one being Va Tech.
