Gus Frerotte takes the snap, looks left, and throws long to a wide open Bernard Berrian who makes the catch...TOUCHDOWN!! At the beginning of the season I don't think any Viking fan could have predicted this outcome and how well the team is doing with Gus Frerotte as their starting quarterback. Many fans may have predicted that TJack would fail and that Frerotte would take over, but I highly doubt any fan would think that Gus would lead the team to win seven games and lead them to the top of the NFC North Standings as well. I think many Vikings fans and other football fans as well are very surprised with the way the Vikings are playing under Gus because lets face it Frerotte is nothing more than a good backup quarterback but he is playing with the poise and confidence of a Pro Bowler. The Vikings can't count on 37 year old Gus to be around forever to provide this type of play they need to start thinking about the future and they need to do it soon. Can Tarvaris Jackson take over and finally step up or will the reigns be handed over to former USC standout QB John David Booty?
The Vikings need to look into free agency or in the draft for a future quarterback because Tarvaris lacks the intangibles of a starting NFL quarterback and John David Booty is most likely meant to be a backup after seeing the way he preformed in the preseason. There is some hope in free agency, however;as Quarterbacks' such as Matt Cassel and Kurt Warner are available via free agency but would Cassel be proven enough by that time to trust as your franchise quarterback and would it really be worth picking up another quarterback who is just as old as the one we have already got? The Vikings best bet is to probably pick up another veteran quarterback that has a few years left in the tank and also look for a franchise quarterback in the 2009 draft/ off-season.
