I have heard all week that OU won the big 12 south because they racked up more style points, but the computers are no longer allowed to care about style.
Why? Because the NCAA made the geeks who set up the formulas for the computer rankings take out margin of victory completely from there computations; Thus, the place were style points count the most is the human polls, where Texas edged OU by a slim margin. so, Texas won the style points battle. Initially, when the BCS looked at margin of victory they asked the computers to cap margin of victory but then decided to get rid of it completely.
What the computers do, for the most part, is take your strength of schedule and compare it to how you performed throughout your season. That is why teams like Boise State, Utah, and TCU do not get much love from the computers because although they perform well, they do not have the strength of schedule to push themselves very high. It is also the reason why big conference schools can lose on or two games and stay ahead of them.
Being ahead in the polls means Texas won the style points battle, OU won it with the more substantive computer rankings which no longer allowed to care about style.
