Packers Have a New Punter

Bleacher Report Senior Analyst IDecember 3, 2008

Jeremy Kapinos. Paul Ernster. Durant Brooks. Danny Baugher.

These are the four guys that the Packers brought in for punter tryouts. The only way you've ever heard of them before is if you are related to them. Because of this, I really didn't care who the Packers selected, as long as it wasn't the guy who was arrested for assaulting his father in a fast food parking lot at 4 a.m. after being cut by the Patriots (Baugher).

In the end, the Packers went with Kapinos, who punted in one game last year with the New York Jets. He was a Ray Guy award finalist for Penn State after the 2006 season, but then again, that didn't mean much for this former Packers' punter.

He'll join the team for practice on Thursday, and has relatively no expectations for the remainder of the season. All he's got to do is be better than Derrick Frost, which probably won't be too difficult. It helps, too, when all that your head coach expects of you is to "punt the ball in the right direction," as McCarthy told reporters on Wednesday.

Good luck, buddy.
