College Football Rankings 2011: Despite Win, Stanford Drops to No. 5 Behind Wisconsin

On Saturday the Stanford Cardinal defeated the Colorado Buffaloes 48-7 at home while the Wisconsin Badgers were on a bye-week.
Both are now 5-0, but heading into Week 6 the Cardinal was ranked No. 4 whereas the Badgers were No. 5.
However, despite throttling Colorado, Stanford dropped one spot in the coaches’ poll and are now ranked behind Wisconsin even though the Badgers didn’t play.
That said, this also comes as no surprise since Wisky had totally whipped then-ranked No. 8 Nebraska and Stanford has yet to verse a ranked opponent.
In addition, the Cardinal’s best opponent through five games has been the Duke Blue Devils of the ACC who are 3-2 (and we’re not talking basketball).
To make matters for Stanford even worse, No. 9 Oregon is the only ranked opponent currently on their schedule, which could potentially drop them to No. 7 or No. 8 even if they go undefeated.
It’s a bit of a stretch, but having a very weak schedule for being a BCS and national title contending team isn’t indicative of someone ranked in the Top Five.
Yes it helps that they’re smashing all their opponents, but how they play against Oregon, USC, and Notre Dame could be very telling of Stanford’s true colors in 2011.
